Looking to strengthen your skills in FAIR data practices and modern research data management? The upcoming Spring School, co-organized by NFDI-MatWerk and FAIRmat, offers hands-on training and practical insights tailored to materials science and engineering.
We invite applications from advanced master’s students, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers, and young professionals working in experimental and/or modeling/simulation in any field of materials science and engineering, condensed-matter physics, solid state chemistry and related disciplines. No prior research data management experience is needed.
Participation is free, but places are limited.

How can simulation methods such as GW, BSE, TDDFT, DMFT, and related approaches be made FAIR? This CECAM Flagship Workshop brings together method developers, materials scientists, and data experts to address shared challenges in data management, standardization, and workflow provenance for excited-state and Green’s function methods.

- Emphasis on interoperability and common data structures
- A community-driven roadmap for FAIR theoretical spectroscopy data
The workshop is organized by an international committee including HU Berlin, TUM, BAM, and Kiel University, with support from the FAIRmat consortium.

Polymer Informatics Accelerates and Improves Polymer Science
The FAIRmat Seminar series continues with a talk by Prof. Dr. Christopher Künneth (University of Bayreuth).
Polymer informatics has become an increasingly important area in materials science and chemistry, offering systematic pathways for the discovery and design of polymers tailored to specific applications. While traditional computational methods encounter limitations when navigating the vast chemical space of polymer structures, data-driven approaches provide a scalable and efficient alternative.
In this seminar, Prof. Künneth presents how machine learning models are directly applied to the prediction of polymer properties and the design of bioplastics and organic battery materials. He also highlights the role of chemical language models in streamlining this process. By accelerating the polymer discovery and design process, these computational pipelines can support continued development in areas ranging from sustainable materials to energy storage.
The seminar takes place at the Center for the Science of Materials Berlin and online. Online participation requires registration.
From May 25–29, 2026, FAIRmat will participate in the annual Spring Meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) at the Strasbourg Convention Centre in France. The Spring Meeting & Exhibit is a major international forum in materials science, featuring 24 parallel symposia with invited speakers, oral and poster presentations, and a plenary session to discuss recent advances in both fundamental research and technological applications.
This year’s exhibition will run from May 26–28, bringing together around 80 international exhibitors showcasing equipment, software, publications, and services of interest to the materials community. We are pleased to announce the eighth FAIRmat Users Meeting, which will take place at the Center for the Science of Materials Berlin (CSMB) on June 16–17, 2026.
The FAIRmat Users Meeting brings together scientists and data stewards in physics, chemistry, and materials science interested in practical research data management (RDM) and FAIR data practices using NOMAD.
The program will feature an overview of recent FAIRmat developments and new NOMAD features, followed by hands-on sessions focused on practical RDM implementation. The first day will conclude with the Users-Meet-Developers exhibit, an open forum to present your work, exchange ideas, and interact directly with NOMAD developers.
On the second day, NOMAD users will share their experiences and best practices for managing, sharing, and analyzing research data using the NOMAD ecosystem.

The entire FAIRmat team gathers twice a year for the internal FAIRmat Project Meeting to focus on project updates, strategic planning, collaboration opportunities, and discussions on future directions.
The final Project Meeting of FAIRmat’s first funding period will take place from June 17 to 19, 2026, at our headquarters in Berlin.
